CREAM 84 on Main: Striving to give you that “new car” feel

Experience the “new car” feel that CREAM brings back to your vehicle whenever you visit one of our branches. This is thanks to our innovative products and passionate staff.

Glaudina Venter of CREAM 84 on Main in Walkerville, Johannesburg, is one of these dedicated team members. Opening the branch was truly a dream come true for her.

She worked for Dr JH Fleming at Milpark Hospital for 30 years. After his passing, she was grief-stricken and needed to find something to keep her mind occupied and make a bit of money. She decided to help out a family member who had just opened an auto repair shop. As part of her administrative and receptionist duties, she suggested that customers receive a complimentary car wash. This was a huge success and customers were very happy. It became her objective (and dream) to one day own her very own car wash.

With her motto of “Never give up, keep going, work hard every day”, Glaudina managed to finally achieve her dream of owning her own car wash.

Becoming part of the car wash industry was a very easy decision. “From the beginning of this journey, it taught me so much. I learned that I am capable of anything that I set my mind to. That has also been my biggest reward,” Glaudina explains.

She had a great experience at a CREAM branch and CREAM’s unique and inviting brand instantly caught her attention. “That’s why it was an easy decision to start my business with CREAM.”

Her biggest challenge since opening the branch has been not being able to spend as much time as she would like attracting customers.

Glaudina’s vision for the branch is to grow it to a prime spot and she hopes to later be able to open another branch.

Her advice to customers? “If you are looking for great customer service, impeccable workmanship and a car that has that “almost-new car” feel, then go where your car wants to go – Cream car wash, 84 on Main!”

Bringing the CREAM magic to George

CREAM will be making a splash in George soon! We’re opening a brand-new branch at Paddagat Shopping Centre, situated in the heart of this Western Cape tourist mecca.

Franchisee William Hewitt is looking forward to applying more than 15 years’ experience in the ICT industry to ensure that clients leave the car wash with big smiles.

Born and raised in George, William started working in various businesses from the age of 16 to gain exposure. When he was 20, a great opportunity saw him move to Cape Town. Here he worked his way up to management positions in the ICT industry and learned a lot about business and working with clients.

After 12 years in the Mother City, William and his wife decided that it was time to escape the rat race and buzz of the city. They wanted to move back to William’s hometown to start a business and settle down with their baby boy.

“I have always had a passion for being an entrepreneur. I was always on the lookout for what can work and give it a go. You know what they say, ‘if you don’t try, you will never know and always regret not trying.’”

William had several small eCommerce online shops that helped supplement their income and enjoyed the entrepreneur side of these ventures. He was also selling items on Takealot and was running a jumping castle business.

“It was all doing pretty good, nothing major, but it was never enough to make me go into it fulltime … until I decided to go BIG with investing in my own business when I can be my own boss fulltime.”

William’s recipe for success is following your passion. “If you have a passion for something, turn it into a business, and always know you will love what you are doing with a smile.”

William started doing research on businesses opportunities in October 2019. He first looked into a waterless car wash, then met a franchisor for a coffee. He was not convinced and didn’t want to run a business he did not believe in.

On his way back home, driving past Haasendal Mall, he noticed the CREAM Car Wash there. When he got home, he immediately went to his computer to do some research on the franchise. Not long after, he got in contact with Alan and decided to grab the opportunity.

William’s vision for the car wash is happy clients. “Coming from a support role with my ICT background, for me, it is always about keeping your clients happy. I want to make sure as soon as a client visits with their vehicle, it is taken care of from the start to finish and that the client leaves with a smile on their face. As someone that takes great pride in my own vehicle, I will treat my clients’ vehicles in the same way.

Check out the CREAM Facebook page for more information on when the branch is opening and opening specials.

How is CREAM different from any other car wash?

CREAM is a truly one-of-a-kind car wash franchise thanks to our innovative products and practices and passionate staff. We brought our expertise in the detail business to the front line of the car wash industry to provide clients with a car wash experience like no other.

Besides ensuring that our products are not harmful to your vehicle, we’ve also ensured that they are environmentally friendly. They do not contain any detergents and are biodegradable.

Our products are not only great for your car but don’t harm the environment!

CREAM is also conscious of the water-scarce times we’re living in and employs a special water reclamation system at all our car branches. This system was designed in-house and ensures that we conserve water, unlike most other car washes. Due to the unique nature of our sites, we have our own team that builds each of our new branches across the country.

When your vehicle leaves our wash bays, it’s not only clean but also has an extra layer of protection. Our CREAM formula is made up of Carnauba wax. This special material is only found in Brazil on the leaves of the Carnauba palm and is like the world’s best sunscreen for your car. It allows your paint to breathe, helps prevent rust and leave it looking cleaner and shinier for longer (thanks to paint brighteners in the formula).

And when you regularly visit us, you’ll find that after a few layers the dirt and moths will slide right off your paint. Our resin polish creates a film over your vehicle’s paint, which lasts for up to 6 months. This prevents your paintwork from fading and protects it from the elements and even pollution such as acid rain.

Paint manufacturers from around the world are so impressed that they gave our products their certified approval!

But we don’t just focus on your vehicle’s exterior, we also ensure that the interior gets treated right. Our special leather feed will ensure that your car’s leather interior doesn’t just look great but stays soft. This product will help the leather last and prevent cracking. For other types of vehicle upholstery, we use MasterGuard+ Fabric Protection, which prevents oil and water stains from soaking into fabrics. This ensures that stains don’t remain and cleanup is much easier.

Have we convinced you to visit your nearest CREAM branch yet? If so, then you can look forward to the following services:

CREAM Southdale: Embarking on a new adventure

CREAM is coming to Southdale, Johannesburg! Our new branch at Southdale Mall is opening on Thursday and we’re looking forward to sending a flurry of shiny, freshly-cleaned cars back out into the neighbourhood. Get to know our Southdale franchisee, Tyrone Hogan.

Tyrone has been in business for many years and when he decided to scale down, started looking to try his hand at a speciality business instead of just retiring. He’d known a few people who had started car wash businesses and thought it would “make for an interesting final adventure” in his life.

Tyrone is looking forward to being busy and says that working with cars and customers greatly appeal to him.

“Nothing beats the gleam of a freshly cleaned car except the smile on a customer’s face,” Tyrone says.

His interest in owning a car wash was sparked a while back when a car hire company asked him to assist them to get a car wash plant. This got him thinking that perhaps he should set up one himself.

After several enquiries into car wash franchises didn’t bear fruit, Tyrone was contacted by Alan, from CREAM Head Office. “I was at ease and comfortable with Alan and the CREAM franchise proposal and believe we can be successful together,” he explains.

Tyrone believes that the recipe for success starts by always putting the customer first. “A professionally cleaned end-product and efficient systems, coupled with good, hands-on management should deliver the desired result,” he elaborates. “And I mustn’t forget that I need to get cars through the wash bays in numbers!” he jokes.

Will you be in the Southdale neighbourhood on Thursday? Then come and see why our CREAM brand is growing and customers keep coming back! Keep an eye on our Facebook page for opening specials and other exciting CREAM news.

CREAM Kyalami: Part of the winning formula

Successful entrepreneur Vukile Nontlanga is one of the newest additions to the CREAM team. The franchisee of CREAM’s new branch at Kyalami on Main Shopping Centre has a sentimental tie to the car wash industry that dates back to his childhood.

Find out how Vukile went from washing Mrs Buchanan’s car twice a week as a primary school learner to an experienced and successful entrepreneur that has just added a CREAM franchise to his portfolio:

“At 18, I started my first business, which is still operational today. I was determined to become a successful businessman and this determination, combined with my business management skills, has landed me opportunities to venture into various businesses.

I’m the Managing Director of Vukokuhle Holdings (Pty) Ltd and the company’s Strategic and Solutions Specialist. Over the past 22 years as an entrepreneur, I have managed to start successful businesses in the logistics, hair and beauty and ICT industries.

I have vast experience in both public and private sectors and have undergone extensive training to assist sales employees with enhancing their sales and problem-solving skills. I have worked with the well-known IT companies such as Xerox SA, Canon SA and CanCom SA and in the field of logistics, I have worked with the likes of Vital Distributors and the Edcon Group.

Making a gold Honda Ballade gleam

Looking back at my life, my love of offering my services, seeing a happy face, hearing the magic words of “Thank You” and receiving a token of appreciation started when I was around 8 years old. At the time I was living in Durban with my aunt, a domestic worker employed by Mrs Buchanan.

Mrs Buchanan loved me and looked after me as if I was her own grandchild. I went to live with my aunt when I was only 2 years old and I was told that Mrs Buchanan bought a baby stroller for me and always took me with her when she went to the shops and for walks in the park. As this was back in the 80’s during Apartheid, people were baffled by this.

When I was about 8, Mrs Buchanan saw me pushing a grocery trolly for someone in exchange for their change so I could raise pocket money. She called me and made a deal with me: I would stop pushing trolleys and wash her car twice a week before she went to play Bridge on Thursdays and Sundays before church for some pocket money. This was a much safer “job” for a young boy.

I still remember her gold Honda Ballade 160. I used to take my time to wash it sparkling clean. Mrs Buchanan used to say it was her lucky charm. She joked that whenever she went to play Bridge they would be focusing on how clean the car was and she would be focusing on winning.

That’s how I learned that I love washing cars and that a clean car makes the owner and driver feel good about him or herself.

Becoming a part of CREAM’s winning formula

Over the past year, I had been looking to invest in a car wash franchise. The Covid-19 pandemic put a hold on that search, but on June 4, I received an email that would change that. Nadeema Chothia, a Regional Manager from CREAM wrote to tell me about their franchise and winning formula. I was immediately interested and it reminded of Mrs Buchanan’s deal, which still holds sentimental value for me.

It took us a month and 11 days to seal the deal. I visited the CREAM branch in Heidelberg and then started looking for the perfect location, which ended up being Kyalami on Main Shopping Centre.

I was introduced to the CREAM team and received a welcome call from Alan while boarding a flight from Durban to Johannesburg. That call got me smiling for the whole 45-minute flight.

I can’t wait to be part of CREAM’s winning formula, with their technology and methodologies, and my passion for washing cars and seeing a happy customer driving away in their spotlessly clean car.”

CREAM Kyalami on Main will be opening very soon. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for the newest branch news and great specials!

Keep your vehicle in tip-top shape during lockdown

With many people working from home during the lockdown, cars are staying in the garage for longer periods of time. To ensure that you’re not stuck with a car that won’t start or a flat tyre when you do want to head out, you need to do regular maintenance.

Here is a checklist to keep in mind:

Exterior

  • Treat your vehicle to a luxurious CREAM wash to ensure it’s squeaky clean and polished. Our special blend will ensure your vehicle is not only clean, but your paint is also protected.
  • Before you head out, make sure your tyres are still properly inflated. If not, you might want to visit your nearest filling station for a top-up. Check the tyre treads too, because worn tyres are extremely dangerous (and may earn you a fine!).
  • Ensure that your spare tyre is still in good condition and properly inflated.

Interior

  • Clear out your cubby hole, under the seats and in all the little nooks and crannies where trash and other bits and bobs collect. If you leave trash in your car, it could attract pests and bacteria. You may even find items or documents you’ve been looking for!
  • CREAM can quickly and safely sanitize your car. This is a good idea if your vehicle’s been standing for a while or if you regularly drive and could be exposed to Covid-19.

Under the hood

  • If you don’t use your car for a few weeks, your battery can go flat. To prevent this, take your car for a spin at least once a week. Keep jumper cables handy, in case your car needs a little help to start.
  • Visit your nearest filling station and let them check the oil and water or do it yourself at home. You can get a container of oil at your nearest filling station or a hardware store.

So, if your vehicle needs some extra love and care during the lockdown, visit your nearest CREAM branch and see why our customers keep coming back.

CREAM Northmead: A perfect blend of passions

This week CREAM is celebrating the opening of our brand-new branch at Northmead Mall in Benoni, Gauteng.

For franchisee Riad Vazirna, this new business is a dream come true and we chatted to him about what led to this exciting occasion:

“Customer service, technology and cars (clean ones) have always been major passions of mine. My story goes back over 15 years ago. I spent some time in the UK, working with clients face-to-face in the retail sector and realized that I had not only a knack for it, but it gave me a sense of fulfilment.

Finding my happy place

In 2007 I made my way back to South Africa after 3 years of valuable lessons learned and wondered what to do next. I had saved some money and enquired about opening a car wash, but it didn’t pan out. I then decided to use my newfound passion and joined the corporate technology world. I would eventually spend over a decade in that industry, doing two of the three things I enjoyed: speaking to people and sorting out issues.

Everything was on track as I got married, was blessed with a beautiful daughter and a promising career. Even with all of this, I still felt like this couldn’t be it and every weekend would find myself spending time washing and polishing my car. I even finished the finer details with a toothbrush and then took a picture (yes, I’m that guy). My wife often left me in my “happy place” and my daughter insisted on always helping, especially with the high-pressure hose (with a nervous dad behind her).

Following my passion

Last year (2019), my wife was retrenched and I was on the brink of the same, which forced me to take a step back, and reassess life. One question kept popping up: “Why don’t you take control of your destiny?” I had no answer to that as I was used to making someone else’s business thrive.

My wife asked me, “Why don’t you do what makes you happy?” to which I replied sarcastically, “What? Customer service, tech and cleaning cars?” That’s the moment everything started making sense.

I immediately started searching for an experienced car wash. Because of my limited experience in the industry, I knew I had my work cut out for me. Many business agents did not want to hear me out, but then I gave Alan from CREAM Head Office a call.

The CREAM experience

Alan and I spoke as if we had known each other for months. He convinced me to come and meet him at CREAM’s Southdale branch and I took my accountant (my wife) and my cheerleader (my four-year-old daughter) along.

We decided to treat my wife’s car while Alan took me through CREAM’s ideology and what sets them apart from the competitors. When our car was done, I was immediately sold. It looked like it had been polished in addition to being washed! I then went to their Heidelberg branch, unannounced, to enjoy the CREAM experience first-hand. After experiencing the same quality service, my mind was made up and I became a franchisee.

Despite a few obstacles, including the Covid-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown, CREAM Northmead Mall’s construction got underway. I have been in good hands with Alan and the team, who ensured that we were prepared for any eventuality. Alan took me through each step of the way, ensuring I have the necessary skills and understanding to make my very own CREAM branch work.

This made everything I am passionate about come true: servicing clients, incredible technology behind the CREAM products and, of course, squeaky clean cars!”

Visit the CREAM Northmead branch for your own CREAM experience and keep an eye on our Facebook page for opening specials!

Passion and perseverance leads Yusuf to success

CREAM Car Wash consists of people that are passionate about the car wash industry. We’d like you to get to know the people you trust with your car, so we’ll be introducing the various branches over the next few weeks.

First up is Yusuf Carr of the N1 City branch in Cape Town, who we’d like to welcome to the CREAM Team. It’s a privilege and a feather in our cap to have someone of Yusuf’s calibre and experience (18 years in the industry!) on board.

The N1 City branch will also be our new Western Cape training centre.

Here’s how Yusuf got into the car wash industry and why he is excited to be part of CREAM:

“As far as I can remember, I got an immense feeling of pride and fulfilment from cleaning cars. An onlooker might even say that I’m a little OCD. There is just a sense of accomplishment, a certain amount of joy I feel when I step back and say to myself: “I did that!”

Les Brown, an internationally-known motivational speaker said that if your job is your passion, then you will never work a day in your life.

In 2001, after much deliberation and my family and friends suggesting that I stay with the stability of my day to day job, I finally decided to resign from my 8-5 job and follow my dream. I wanted to own my own business and write my own destiny.

I wanted to have the best car wash in Cape Town.

I needed more ‘hands-on’ experience, so for the first four months after resigning I worked at a panel shop. I learnt how to flat and buff cars while learning and working with different types of paints.

I didn’t have enough capital to buy premises at the time, therefore I purchased the necessary equipment and started doing mobile valets for private persons and dealerships. After two months, I was called to do a demo at a well-known dealership. They were so impressed they requested my services immediately. I was extremely happy.

Overcoming obstacles

The happiness was short-lived though, as eight months later, I was becoming depressed, constantly tired and beginning to struggle financially. I remember my mother’s words: “You gave up a suit and tie to work in overalls.” My reply to her was: “But I’m happy. I’m building my empire”. I didn’t feel like this any more. My son was 6 years old, my daughter was 2 years old, we recently bought a house! My passion and dream couldn’t sustain us any more. I was despondent. What had I done?

After coming home one day, feeling exhausted and like I had failed. I told my wife that I give up. I said that I intended to look for work in the corporate industry again. I had tried, but I had no energy left.

My wife encouraged me to continue with my passion and my dream.

She reminded me that our children were still young and that we can hang in there a bit longer. She agreed to support me in any decision I choose but said that I shouldn’t give up so easily. She is my rock.

It wasn’t easy, but I decided to persevere with my dream. We had some tough times. We had to downscale our lifestyle, sell our assets. There were times when we barely had food in our house.

Blessed with success

My workload increased, which meant that I could afford to employ two staff members. My big break came, when a car wash within my budget became available.

God is good. We saw an increase in our workload due to good, old fashioned hard work, quality work.

Very soon our customers were our biggest advertisement.

At present, we own two car washes and have a staff compliment of 15.

Things were going well, but I still felt that my car wash could be better. Joining CREAM was a big decision, but the obvious next step to becoming a flagship car wash.

Joining the CREAM team

I believe that the professional way CREAM does business and their infrastructure will help me achieve my goal. In my 19 years of experience, I have yet to find a car wash as good as theirs is. They have the complete package: their own chemicals, marketing team and signage.

When I first met Don, I thought he was arrogant. He told me that they had a “better product” and that their “system works better”. I couldn’t believe it. What could CREAM possibly teach me about washing cars, procedures and products?

I was invited to visit another branch of theirs and I decided that I needed to check out my competition if I wanted my car wash to be the best it can be. I was truly impressed by how the car looked just after the wash. Imagine what I could do with their product and my experience!

I agreed to meet up with Alan at CREAM Head Office and was amazed. I finally met someone who is as passionate and has the same experience within this industry as me.”

Clients are encouraged to visit the newly-rebranded N1 City branch and experience the excellent service and passion of Yusuf and his staff for themselves!

Why should I sanitize my car?

You’re kitted out with your mask and hand sanitizer and you haven’t shaken anyone’s hand in months. You’re keeping safe and clean both at home, in town and at work. But what about while you’re travelling?

While most people are focused on personal hygiene, few have considered the germs that travel with them in their car every day.

That’s where Cream Car Wash comes in. We’re fighting on the front line of the Covid-19 epidemic by providing an interior sanitizing service for your vehicle for just R40.00.

Within a few minutes, we’ll have your car germ-free and give you (and your family) peace of mind as you travel during the Covid-19 epidemic.

So why is it important to regularly sanitize your vehicle?

  • As you move around at work or in the shops, you pick up all kinds of germs. You transfer these onto the steering wheel, door handles and even radio dials.
  • If you take a family member to run errands or drop the kids off at school, they run the risk of being infected by the germs left in your vehicle.
  • Anyone who shares your ride can spread more germs.
  • If you’re using a rental car it’s better to be cautious and sanitize it after you pick it up and before you drop it off.
  • When using a company vehicle, especially if several people regularly travel in it, chances of infection are higher.
  • Although contact infection is not the main way the virus is spread, it is better to take extra precautions.

Sanitizing the interior of vehicles is a tricky business as many conventional methods can damage your upholstery and other surfaces. That’s why Cream Car Wash uses a special sanitizing agent that will leave your surfaces in the same tip-top shape they were.
